Old Fashioned Pound Cake

As we start the New Year we continue to bake from "Great Cakes" by Carole Walter. The winning vote for the "Cake Slice" bakers this month went to Old Fashioned Pound Cake.

I read through the instructions and decided to take my time and follow them as instructed. I even greased my pan and lined it like indicated. So proud of myself!

The very first recipe I baked from this book I rushed through and didn't realize I had to add the sugar a tablespoon at a time during the creaming process between a time of 7 minutes. This recipe was no different. I've got this technique down and use a stopwatch and add a tablespoon of sugar every 30 seconds.

I'm sure there is a reason for the long creaming time. And since Carole Walter hasn't disappointed me yet, I keep trusting her. Let me tell you that I loved this batter! And the aroma from the cake baking in the oven was amazing! I had a slice of this cake while it was slightly warm and it was fabulous! Loved everything about this pound cake!

I hope you take the time to visit my Cake Slice friends and read about their baking experience.

Beautiful cake Anabel....and I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Love the little peak and crack in the center. You've been giving us some great choices and I'm already looking forward to next month!

Loeverly looking loaf Ms. Anabel...You mastered this pound cake with perfection!

You got perfection there! I was also concentrating on the beating in of sugar and the eggs.... that I forgot to reduce the sugar!! OMG there a whole cup load of it in my cake! For Ms Carole's recipes I made sure that my butter is really at room temperature and I have been using icing sugar! Good results with these two must-do-or-die!!

Your cake looks like a perfect pound cake. I love how you have the timing down exactly with adding the sugar, I kind of winged this part but it worked out fine.

I did a double take when I read about how long it should take to add in the sugar..it was almost like making a meringue..lol yours looks beautiful!

It is so nice to read you loved the cake... I am now between hating it and loving it... loving it because it was sooooo greatly enjoyed here at home .... hating it because it's disappointed many of our fellow bakers. :) Glad you liked it! :) Your pound cake looks really great!

wow, Anabel! You actually timed the minutes for the adding in of the sugar. Brilliant isn't it? Yes although this is only my first bake, I find her recipe to be pretty awesome. Now, I can't wait for our next cake :)

Hey Anabel, maybe I should also add the sugar a spoonful a time. I didn't, but if you think it works well, I think it is worth trying! Nice cake!
